Objectives

  • Organise and structure the archiving of information about regulation of gene expression. Perform an analysis of all aspects of the gene regulatory processes and mechanisms that are studied; assess how these can be formally represented.

  • Assess the current coverage of bioontologies needed to comprehensively annotate gene regulatory information and extend and refine ontologies for the annotation of molecules, complexes, interactions and sequence motifs.Develop guidelines for annotating information, establish efficient curation pipelines and explore the possibilities of text mining approaches to increase the efficiency of the curation process.

Focus on Gene Regulation

Many of the current efforts target relatively narrow themes or are developed in relative isolation, therefore this Action is designed to establish a ‘superstructure’, or ‘ensemble’ of existing consortia, knowledge production and management efforts. Together we aim to establish efficient communication not only among leaders in the field, but also include small players, and reinforce the efficiency, complementarity and compatibility of global efforts to take care of the results of scientific investigation. The breadth of knowledge production in the Life Sciences is huge, and too demanding to cover in its entirety in one COST Action. GREEKC therefore focuses a small but very important subdomain: the knowledge and information obtained about biomolecules and processes underlying Gene Regulation, a crucial component for biological systems analysis and the computational modelling of cell fate decisions.
